Living in Norway
Thursday, 15 January 2009 11:35
Norway as a country is probably most famous for its dramatic nature and limitless outdoor activities and possibilities. With a 5 million population spread over a large geographical area Norway is in comparison to other modern economies sparsely populated.
In recent times Oil revenues have contributed to a high level of economic activity and ensured that Norwegians enjoy a high standard of living. As a result in the last 10 years, Norway has constantly appeared in the top 3 of countries in the world to live in on the ranking list as produced by the United Nations.
English is widely spoken and understood but of course any foreigners planning on staying long term in Norway should prepare themselves for learning Norwegian as quickly as possible.
Stavanger, where we are based, area in South Western Norway is Norway’s Oil capital but with its close access to fjords, islands and mountains combines to make this a very attractive and modern place to live in.
Not least that in 2008 Stavanger successfully celebrated its status as European Capital of Culture!
